CTPAT Purpose and Benefits

The Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) is a voluntary partnership between U.S. Customs (CBP) and the international trade community. This program has been in existence since 2001 and thousands of importers, freight forwarders, customs brokers and others are currently certified under CTPAT and enjoying the benefits that go along with it.

CTPAT allows U.S. Customs and Border Patrol to work directly with the international trade community to strengthen U.S. borders against threats, especially potential terrorist threats.

To join CTPAT and become officially certified, you enter an agreement with Customs and Border Patrol to confirm your company will take steps to ensure your international supply chain is secure. The main benefit of being CTPAT certified is that your company is automatically considered to be of lower risk, so you are less likely to face shipment delays and the associated added costs at any U.S. port of entry.
